Button impressed the selection committee with his well-rounded approach to sports journalism.

Adam’s achievements included initiating and overseeing a massive project for the student newspaper, The Eyeopener, which profiled Ryerson’s top ten athletes. Button guided the project from concept, content to design.

Button interned at the Hamilton Spectator where his diligence and flair for writing earned him a front-page story on Canada’s golf star Mike Weir at the Canadian Open in September of 2003.

Button says, as a child, he learned to read by flipping through the sports sections of newspapers. “To me, every Cam Neely goal was a fearless conquest over the hated opposition. I cried when Boston Bruins lost out in the playoffs.”

He says he plans to: “….write about sports for the rest of my life.”

Button’s goal is to write about Canada’s unsung amateur athletes. “It’s time to show people playing for the love of the game,” he says. “Overpaid misbehaving athletes aren’t role models. I want to show young people that sport is about dedication and sportsmanshisp, not money and fame.”
