Blatchford, of the Globe and Mail, can be read and heard from war-torn Afghanistan these days. However, back in her early days in journalism at the Globe, she was one of the first female sports columnists in Canada While she has written for every major Toronto daily over a career spanning more than 35 years, her main beat as a columnist finds her back at the Globe and sprinkled among her news reporting, she returns to her roots to cover an Olympic Games from time to time.

Harrison is a Canadian television legend. Not many can rank 15 Stanley Cup finals, the Tiger Woods Canadian Open win, the U-S “Miracle on Ice” in 1980, among their many achievements. As vice president of Molstar Communications, his responsibilities included Hockey Night In Canada and Molson Indy Auto races.

Christie Blatchford and Ron Harrison will headline the list of winners at this year’s Sports Media Canada Awards luncheon scheduled for the Royal York Hotel in Toronto on Thursday, October 25, 2007.
