2020 Summer Games in Tokyo

IOC met in Buenos Aires to select 2020 Games City

TOKYO was the successful bidder for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games at the selection meeting held in Buenos Aires, Argentina today (September 7). It was Tokyo’s third bid after attempts to host the Olympic Games of 1960 and 2016. Tokyo’s bid got stronger thanks to their financial power and confidence that when they say something will be done, they will do it.

This would not be the first Olympics for Tokyo; they hosted the Games in 1964.Tokyo guarantees 37,000 accommodations in a range of about ten kilometers from the center of the city, and 140,000 more near the city.

The delegation’s “ultra-compact plan” presented a big difference from other bidding cities Istanbul and Madrid, as its venues would mostly be in the same place. Of the 37 venues that would be constructed for competitions, at least 28 will be in the center of the city, including the National Stadium of Kasumigaoka, where the 2019 Rugby World Cup will take place. 85% of the venues would be within eight kilometers of the Village in the center of the city.

The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo will take place from July 24 to August 9, with the Paralympics from August 25 to September 9; which means the weather would be very hot with maximum temperatures of 30C and a very high percentage of humidity expected.
