What you’re looking at now is the updated and streamlined edition of the Sports Media Canada website – sportsmediacanada.ca.

Sports Media Canada President Steve McAllister says about it:  “We’re still “under construction” as they say in the building trade — but please keep ‘dropping in’ as we tidy up the loose ends. When that’s accomplished, we hope that you’ll find the site easy to use and that it will provide insight, which is available on no other website about Canadian, and sometimes international, sports media.”

He added: “We leave the reporting and coverage of sports and sports events to the members of our profession – the sports media – as you consume it on their various print and electronic media outlets. We focus, rather, on the reporters, columnists, commentators, photographers and production teams which pull it all together to give you the ‘big picture’ in sports.”

A major initiative pursued by Sports Media Canada for the past 15 years is to identify the outstanding practitioners of the craft in Canada. Panels of experienced and knowledgeable sports journalists past and present select deserving recipients of the Sports Media Canada George Gross Awards. The recipients of these annual awards are identified at a presentation luncheon each fall.

The 15th Annual Sports Media Canada Achievement Awards will be presented on October 13th at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Tickets are available by contacting Dick Bradbeer at 905-855-2666.

Because we don’t ‘cover’ the daily doings in sport — there isn’t the diet of ‘hot news’ offered on sportsmediacanada.ca that you’ll find on Yahoo Sports or the websites of the major Canadian daily newspapers or TV and radio stations.  We hope, however, that you’ll look in from time to time to keep abreast of What’s Happening ‘behind the scenes’ so to speak. That’s where our stories come from.
