2013 – Frank Selke, Jr.

Frank Selke, Jr.

He spent 21 glorious years with the Montreal Canadiens where his father, Frank Selke, managed one of the NHL’s all-time powerhouses, including five consecutive Stanley Cups from 1956 through ’60.
Frank Selke Jr. became involved with broadcast media, initially as analyst with Hockey Night in Canada and eventually serving as the intermission host on Montreal telecasts from 1958 to ’67.
He later became President and GM of the Oakland Seals (1967-71) before returning to Hockey Night in Canada in 1971 where he served as Executive Vice President for the next 20 years.
He was also part of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee from 1991 to 2006. Introduced to Special Olympics in 1969, Frank became a champion of Special Olympians for the remainder of his life.
Don Cherry said: “Frank was a true Canadian gentlemen like Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin. They have a quiet dignity about them…class.”
Frank Selke Jr. died on March 18, 2013 at the age of 83.
