Further Education Project

Sports Media Canada is mandated to work to improve the quality and value of sports journalism in Canada. To that end the Student Bursary was created several years ago to stimulate and facilitate the study of the sports journalism in Canadian post-secondary educational institutions. A scholarship has been awarded annually to an outstanding student of sports journalism to help and encourage dedication to the profession and completion of his or her specialized formal education.

If it proves feasible Sports Media Canada will create an “Entry to The Real World” post-graduate course, intended to better equip them to take up an entry position with a Canadian newspaper, radio station, TV station or magazine sports department.
If the new initiative can be funded and partners found to share the process, Sports Media Canada Executive Vice President, Don Goodwin, will oversee the Entry to The Real World course which will call upon the experience and practical sports journalism skills of other members of the Sports Media Canada.
