The Tennis Masters Canada 2004 tournament is underway in Toronto, inaugurating the newest and finest sports facility built in Ontario since the SkyDome. Located on the western edge of the grounds of York University, the Rexall Centre is a major improvement, in every respect, for those following the annual major tennis event in Toronto, replacing the long-serving National Tennis Centre on the east side of the York University grounds. Created in the late 70s, the National Tennis Centre brought Canadian tennis into the ‘big leagues’ and all the greats of the game, both men and women, over the past the quarter century have showed their stuff for Toronto, Ontario and Canadian tennis fans on its courts. Almost all of the top 50 male players in tennis today are entered in the Tennis Masters Canada 2004 – making the tournament significant in that regard and something of a tennis history milestone with the inauguration of Canada’s new Temple of Tennis.
