Sportsnet’s Viewing Grand Slam

Rogers Sportsnet captured its biggest Toronto Blue Jays audience ever on Friday, April 1st as 1.02 million (2+)viewers

tuned in for the Jays’ 13-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins.    The Sportsnet audience peaked at 1.3 million during the seventh inning.

The season-opening audience, according to BBM Canada’s overnight preliminary data, broke the previous Jays record of 807,000 for the New York Yankees game on August 2nd, 2010.

Jays’ season opener was 133 per cent above last year’s average audience of 437,000 (2+), 28 per cent higher than last season’s home opener of

796,000 (2+) and 106 per cent above the season opener of 496,000 (2+) from last year.

Sportsnet pulled in a total of 2.5 million viewers for the three-game series.  The following is a breakdown of the audiences from the Jays and Twins series from Friday, April 1 to Sunday, April 3:

  • Friday, April 1 – 1.02 million (2+)
  • Saturday, April 2 – 732, 000 (2+)
  • Sunday, April 3 – 756,000 (2+)

In addition, the Jays Connected edition for the season opener on Friday attracted 246,000 viewers and the Sportsnet Connected prime edition totaled 357,000.
