AIPS Year-end Poll

Usain Bolt

Jamaican sprint phenom Usain Bolt topped the AIPS poll as Outstanding Male Athlete in the World in 2012 by a wide margin.
US swim star Michael Phelps was second in the poll, over 20 percentage points behind, closely followed by tennis’ Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
Veteran US tennis champion Serena Williams captured a closer race for the Outstanding Female Athlete honours with just under 16 percent of the votes. Olympic heptathlon standout Jessica Ennis of Great Britain was a close second with 200m gold medallist Allyson Felix of the US close behind her.
Spain’s national soccer team was named the Outstanding Team of the Year, narrowly edging the Barcelona soccer team. The US Olympic basketball team was third in the voting.
An award of special interest for sports journalists, the Best Press Facilities Award, went to the London Olympic Press Operations. The Euro 2012 Soccer tournament was second with the Wimbledon Tennis Championships a close third.
